It's the difference between titillation and insight. Or it is like viewing an eye-candy babe to having a profound encounter with the same 'babe'. Meaning provides a unique cognitive realization, while stimulation provides physical intensity. The cognitive realization is the portal to a new perception of one's environment or oneself. Physical intensity is equivalent to a bucket of cold water landing on you. It's memorable and acutely intense, but gives no more than an emotional reaction to the stimulus. This kind of stimulus appreciation and apprehension creates an affected-emotive personality, in which the person enjoys the drama role of their moment. In that role there is rarely more than a tactical manipulation of the factors and little detached introspection of the phenomena encountered.
On the other hand, the unique cognitive experience affects how one thinks and approached the phenomena from how they formerly approached it. It is the genesis of a new habit, instead of being a psychological, or physical, compulsive or mindless addictive habit.
